So I was having a conversation with my friend and we were discussing abusive relationships and how there are still people in this world who just keep going back for more. As someone who has lived on both ends of this (Abusing and being the abused one) and was in this situation for 4 years, this conversation inspired me to write this poem. Its basically about how the world and the people around you can try and talk all the sense they want into you, but when you are in the relationship you are blind. The only thing that can make you walk away is YOU! You need to look in the mirror one day and realize where you are and wake up! And usually when that happens you hit rock bottom. That is what this poem is about, its about being at the bottom and climbing to work your way back up to a positive place in life. A better place in life. A lot can change in just a few months, a year, etc. But its up to you to change it.
It doesn't phase you until you hit rock bottom
It doesn't register until you crash
It doesn't matter what they say
Its gotta be you staring back through the glass
They can give you all the lectures in the world
They can give you all the time that they think you need
But none of that matters until you are the one who is ready to break free
It takes realization, It takes courage, it takes strength
You don't realize how alone you really are until the world beneath you begins to shake
And as the world begins to crumble
As everything caves in around you
You're staring back at yourself
And wondering how it got to
This point.
